Parents of 15-Day-Old Baby Nearly Eaten Alive by Rodents Plead Guilty

The Arkansas mother and father whose newborn baby suffered more than 100 rat bites have plead guilty.

Erika Shyrock, 19, and Charles Elliott, 18, were in court Thursday morning.

Shyrock and Elliott have both been sentenced to five years in prison. They plead guilty to permitting abuse to a minor.

The child has been adopted out.

The other charge they were facing, endangering the welfare of a child, has been dropped.

Investigators said the infant was nearly eaten alive by rats, with as many as 100 bite marks on her tiny arms, body and face.

One wound was so severe that you could even see the child’s skull. The infant even needed to have facial reconstruction surgery due to the one-inch-wide wound down to its skull from rats.

Elliott and Shryock both told police they both woke up with the child screaming and found her covered in blood in May 2017.

They admitted to police they knew they had a rodent problem and did nothing about it.

They also told police that they were afraid to take the child to the hospital for fear that their daughter would be taken away.
