A Vermont man had enough with his smoke alarm, and now he is facing a felony aggravated assault with a weapon charge.

Police say 68-year old Leroy Mason had complained several times about false alarms with his smoke detector. He was upset fire crews wouldn’t move it.

On Monday evening, police say he aimed his 20-gauge shotgun at the alarm and fired two shots with the hopes of relocating it.

One shot hit a wall he shares with a neighbor.

Police were able to take the shotgun from Mason when they arrived. However, Mason rearmed himself with a Colt 45 handgun.

Police say he pointed it at first responders and demanded his shotgun be returned.

He was disarmed after a brief standoff.
