President Donald Trump has signed a bill into law aimed at helping terminally ill patients.
The Right to Try Act gives patients the right to seek drug treatments that remain in clinical trials.
U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly of Indiana was among the bill’s sponsors.
The bill was named in part for 9-year-old Jordan McLinn, a Indianapolis resident, who is battling a rare form of muscular distrophy. Trump said he thinks “hundreds of thousands” could be saved as a result of the legislation.
“We are finally giving these wonderful Americans the right to try,” Trump said. “Thousands of terminally ill Americans will finally have the help, the hope and the fighting chance. And I think it’s going to be better than chance that they will be cured, that they will be helped.”
While signing the bill, Trump had a sweet moment with Jordan, giving him a hug and a kiss.
