Morris Safe House, a no-kill animal shelter, found 11 puppies dumped outside their facility, Sunday morning. They called it an unexpected ‘huge blow’.
“I was livid that some jerk would have the audacity to dump dogs,” said Sallie Morris, the director and founder of Morris Safe house in Hockley County.
Morris said the puppies were found shivering outside from the freezing overnight temperatures, their food thrown in the dirt, and most had worms.
It is not the first time puppies or dogs have been dropped off without notice, and she said she wants them to realize they are leaving them with thousands of dollars in bills.
“I’ll drop probably $4,000 getting these dogs from point A of getting puppy shots, to getting them spayed and neutered, microchipped, rabies and then find them homes,” she said.
Morris received some funding through grants and donations, but said a lot of the funds come from her own cotton farm earnings.
“It was hailed out and it did not do what we needed it to do, so we are on a much smaller budget this year,” she said.
Morris said the ‘lab mixes’ are available for adoption today, but won’t be able to go home with an owner until they are spayed or neutered.
