The Lubbock Fire Department released new information Tuesday about a house fire where a body was found Monday evening. At this point LFR said it does not appear criminal activity played a role.

A release posted Tuesday morning to the Lubbock fire Facebook page said:

“A residential structure fire in the 1200 block of 49th street was reported by neighbors just before 8:30 PM Monday evening. Fire suppression crews were on scene within minutes and contained the fire to the front living room. One person was discovered deceased within that room. The Lubbock County Medical Examiners office will release the identity, cause and manner of death at a later time. No indication of criminal activity has been noted at this time. The official fire cause determination remains under investigation. Smoking in the presence of medical oxygen has not been ruled out.”
