The New Mexico State Police has received numerous reports from citizens advising they received a phone call and informed they had a warrant for their arrest and were required to pay over the phone a warrant fee to clear the arrest. The return phone number of the caller in each instance was displayed as being a New Mexico State Police District office.
The New Mexico State Police wants the public to be aware any such requests are a scam and we are investigating these calls as a criminal matter. The public should be aware neither the New Mexico State Police nor any other government or law enforcement agency would ever contact the public in such a manner and request money to be paid.
If any citizen receives such a phone call or any similar request for money, please contact the nearest New Mexico State Police office.
