On Wednesday, Don Caldwell of Caldwell Entertainment announced Darryl Holland will be the new owner for Cactus Theater as of July 1. After 22 years of operation, Caldwell said it’s bittersweet but it is time to move on to future endeavors.
“I look at this deal with Darryl buying the Cactus Theater as him taking on a chunk of promoting West Texas music. This venue has been dedicated to that from the beginning. He’s going to take that on, I’m going to try to extend the reach of that concept and go forward,” Caldwell said.
Holland plans to renovate areas like the ticket booth, concession stands and the stage. The Cactus Theater will not be closed for these minor renovations.
“Just a little enhancement and improvement along the way, so we can take this jewel and continue to take it farther than anyone could ever think it could go,” Holland said.
He has high expectations for the theater and the performances while he begins his ownership.
“I want the Cactus name to be known through out the region, which it already is and through the state and the national level,” Holland said.
Although Caldwell is no longer the owner, he plans to focus on Caldwell Entertainment, continue to bring artist to the Cactus Theater and begin his show “Live from Lubbock.”
Holland said he already has acts lined up for July and August, and can’t wait for this new beginning.
Holland is the same local businessman who purchased the historic Granada Theater in Plainview in August of 2012 and restored it.
