Post ISD administration gave KLBK and EverythingLubbock.com a look at their new elementary school building after a fire in September of 2014.
Post ISD Superintendent Mike Comeaux said a bond project and donations helped fund this project. He added they hope to be done with construction by Spring Break week of March of 2017.
“We try to take some of the aspects of the old building and put it into the new but architecturally our new buildings are going to look similar to the new high school,” Comeaux said.
Comeaux said students will start the school year at the old high school building, where they’ve been since the fire.
“We’re really waiting on kind of, not necessarily the final completion but the substantial completion so we can start designing a schedule of how and when we’re going to move,” Comeaux said.
Different administration and staff says they’re excited for the transition even though it will be during the school year.
“We really have to make sure that the move for the kids and for the teachers is very seamless so we don’t disrupt the construction that’s happened moving forward,” Comeaux said.
Comeaux said the new building won’t be much bigger than the old elementary school. However, it will have new wireless technology, three new playgrounds with artificial surfaces, and a bigger auditorium.
Post ISD schools begin on Monday, August 22.
