Around 2:00 this morning [Thursday], New Mexico State Police officers investigated a single vehicle fatal crash which occurred on US 380 near mile marker 200, east of Roswell.
The initial investigation indicated a vehicle was traveling westbound on US 380 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to navigate a curve in the roadway when it lost control, exited the roadway, and rolled. The driver and sole occupant, identified as Daniel M. Rivera (19) of Roswell, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Mr. Rivera sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in this crash.
This crash remains under investigation.
