On Saturday, June 20, 2015, around 6:00 a.m., officers from the New Mexico State Police responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash.  This crash occurred at mile marker 1, near the intersection of Potash Mines Road, on New Mexico State Road 128, northeast of Loving, New Mexico.

The initial investigation revealed a 2011 Ford pickup, driven by Matthew Ryan Sweatt (24), of Carlsbad, NM, was traveling west on NM 128.  The pickup crossed the center line of the roadway, driving into the eastbound lane, and collided into a 2013 Mack commercial motor vehicle (CMV) traveling eastbound.

Mr. Sweatt sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Office of the Medical Investigator.  The driver of the CMV was flown to University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, with unknown injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.  Alcohol was not identified as a contributing factor in the crash.
