No. 5 Texas Tech was eliminated from the Big 12 tournament after being run ruled by fifth seeded Oklahoma, 17-4 in the quarterfinal round.
Tech charged out to an early lead after sophomore second baseman Michael Davis smoked his first home run of the season over the left field wall to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. They would add one more in the frame to get out to a 2-0 lead.
The Sooners answered back in the home half of the inning. Oklahoma junior first baseman Sheldon Neuse hit a 2-RBI single up the middle to bring in freshman outfielder Steele Walker, and junior outfielder Ben Hollas.
In the third, Tech tacked on one more run after Tech senior utility player Cory Raley singled up the middle to score Davis from third, making it 3-2 Texas Tech.
However, in the bottom of the third inning Oklahoma reeled off six run to take a commanding lead. The Red Raiders had two different opportunities to turn double plays to get out of the jam, but could not complete either attempt. Sooners lead 8-3 following the third inning. Oklahoma then added five more runs in the fourth inning, four more runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding lead.
No. 5 Texas Tech has been eliminated from the Big 12 tournament and will find out their NCAA fate during the selection show on Monday, May 30 at Noon on ESPNU.
