In response to a routine question from EverythingLubbock.com, Lubbock Police said on Tuesday that no charges will be filed for the April 1 report of a robbery at the 4323 50th Street branch of Wells Fargo in Lubbock.
Police said the decision was made on April 11 after police talked with both the suspect and the FBI.
A police report from April 1 said a woman entered the bank to cash a check.
It also said, “[The suspect] then placed her hand inside her jacket out of sight and along her rib cage as if gripping a firearm and stated ‘this is a stick up.’”
Two bank employees “stared at [the suspect].”
One of them asked “if this was some kind of April fool’s joke.”
“[The suspect] laughed and said ‘why did you have to ruin my thing?” the police report said.
The suspect left, and no money was stolen.
The police report said, “[The two bank employees] believed this incident to be a legitimate joke, and advised that the head manager made them report the incident to police.”
Police said at the time that it wasn’t funny, and the case was being treated as a robbery.
Shortly after the incident, a police spokesman said, “Whoever did this, joke or not, committed a robbery.”
