Odessa Police arrested Mario Banuelos on Saturday, at approximately 4:20 a.m.,for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Assault by Strangulation, Unlawful Restraint, Resisting Arrest, and for two outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of East 11th Street in reference to a disturbance.

Dispatch advised officers that the actor, later identified as Banuelos, was armed with a sword.

Upon arrival, officers heard an active disturbance inside the residence and observed a female subject at the window screaming for help.

Officers immediately made forced entry and attempted to detain and search for Banuelos.

Officers located Banuelos, who pulled away from officers and attempted to prevent officers from detaining him by kicking his feet at officers.

After physically fighting Banuelos, officers were successful in detaining and handcuffing him.

Investigation revealed that Banuelos came to his ex-wife’s residence and began to scream at her. The 32-year-old ex-wife grabbed her children and ran outside.

Banuelos then placed his ex-wife into a chokehold and pulled her over a brick fence outside and back into the residence.

The ex-wife reported that while Banuelos had her in a choke hold she could not breathe. Banuelos then grabbed the sword and began swinging it at his ex-wife. He was attempting to strike her and place her in fear of her life.

Officers observed bodily injury around her neck.

Banuelos was charged and arrested accordingly.
