Odessa Police have made an arrest in connection to a disturbance that occurred Saturday.
Trinity Joshua Ornelas, has been arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and two counts of Injury to a Child.
Just after 10 a.m. on June 27, Odessa Police responded to the 2100 block of North Hancock in reference to a domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the complainant, who advised her common-law husband, Ornelas, had assaulted her two children.
Investigation revealed that after the complainant got into an argument with Ornelas, he began to stab her in the face and head with a knife, placing her in fear of serious bodily injury or death. Ornelas also grabbed her by the neck with both hands and began to choke her.
The complainant was able to fight back and push Ornelas off of her. Ornelas then grabbed both of the complainant’s children, a 4-year-old male and 4-month-old male and threatened to kill both of them.
The complainant managed to take both of her children away from Ornelas after he began to choke out the 4-year-old.
The complainant escaped with both of her children through a window and out to safety. The 4-month-old sustained minor injuries as a result of the altercation. The complainant and the 4-year-old also sustained minor injuries.
When officers arrived on scene, Ornelas barricaded himself inside the residence.
Shortly after, the OPD SWAT Team and OPD Crisis Negotiation Team arrived on scene.
The Swat Team made entry into the residence and Ornelas was taken into custody and eventually to the ECLEC.
