The Odessa Police Department has arrested a man who is accused of dropping a 4-month-old girl onto a concrete floor.

Jeffery Stamps, 25, is charged with Injury to a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a first degree felony.

Officers were dispatched to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa around 5:00 p.m. in reference to an injured baby.

The investigation revealed that Stamps had been watching the child at a home in the 4300 block of Durango.

Stamps reportedly told Odessa Police that the child slipped out of his arms, fell onto a baby bouncer and then onto the concrete floor.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the child sustained a “subdural hematoma and her brain was bleeding.” The affidavit also stated that after being dropped the child immediately “went into an unresponsive state.”

The baby was later airlifted to a trauma hospital in Lubbock.

Authorities said Stamps was the only person at the home and “intentionally” dropped the 4-month-old onto the concrete floor causing her injuries.

Based on the facts and the circumstances of the case, detectives obtained a warrant to arrest and charge Stamps.

Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.
