A 27-year-old man is facing felony charges after police say he evaded officers while a 9-year-old girl was in the vehicle.

At about 12:37 a.m. Tuesday officer noticed a Dodge Durango run a stop sign in the area of 25th and Center Avenue, according to a release.

Officers activated their emergency lights in an attempt to stop the driver, later identified as Mario Alvarado, but officials say he refused and evaded.

Alvarado eventually stopped the vehicle in the 500 block of Barrow where he immediately got out and ran from police before entering a nearby home, according to the release.

Officers then kicked the door of the home open and managed to place Alvarado into custody, according to the release.

During the investigation, officers also learned that a 9-year-old girl was in the vehicle during the incident, according to police.

Alvarado was arrested and charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, both of which are state-jail-felonies, and resisting arrest, a class-A-misdemeanor.
