Authorities said Harris County Precinct 3 Assistant Chief Deputy Clint Greenwood was shot and killed Monday morning.  He was shot at about 7:00 a.m. in the Baytown courthouse and taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he later died.

As of late morning, no suspect had been found and officials did not say if Greenwood was specifically targeted.

A nearby high school was temporarily placed on lockdown after the shooting.

“Texas is taking action to strengthen penalties for those brazen enough to commit crimes against law enforcement,” Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a written statement.

Abbott said, “We will send a message that such vile acts will not be tolerated in the Lone Star State. I am confident the perpetrator of this despicable act will be apprehended and that the murderer will be met with swift justice.”
