On Wednesday evening, someone pointed a gun at a Potter County Sheriff’s Deputy in a marked sheriff’s patrol unit while it was stopped in the gravel area southwest of Givens Avenue and Broadway Drive.

A man parked a vehicle 75 yards north of the patrol unit and the the deputy could see the man handling a long gun inside the vehicle.

The deputy immediately maneuvered the patrol unit around to the north to face the subject and observed a white male exit his vehicle and point a riffle at the deputy.

The deputy then exited the vehicle and went to the rear of patrol unit to place the patrol unit between himself and the suspect.

The suspect yelled at the deputy in a threatening manner and moved towards the deputy aggressively. The suspect abruptly stopped, retreated to his vehicle and sped away west on Givens Avenue.

The deputy pursued but lost sight of the vehicle.

Potter County Deputies, officers with the Amarillo Police Department, and a DPS helicopter searched the area but the suspect was not located.

The suspect’s vehicle was described as a dark color older model smaller SUV or possibly a Jeep Cherokee or Ford Explorer.
