Officials: Hepatitis A Case Confirmed in Scurry County

The Scurry County Health Unit confirmed a case of Hepatitis A, in a Facebook post on Thursday.

“As of right now, we are considering this an isolated case,” the post said. “We will continue our investigation and keep the public informed if there are any changes. In the meantime, please ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS!”

Officials said symptoms of the virus do not typically appear until the person has been infected for a few weeks.

Symptoms include “fatigue, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain or discomfort (especially in the area of the liver on the right side of the body beneath the lower ribs) clay-colored bowel movements, loss of appetite, low grade fever, dark urine, joint pain, and yellowing of the skin and eyes.”

Individuals who have those symptoms, or anyone who feels as though they have come into contact with someone who has those symptoms, are encouraged to contact a doctor.
