Authorities in Howard County are investigating a case of arson that burned a rural country church.

“He told me that the church was already burned, somebody burned it through the inside and it hurt my feelings  pretty bad,” said Big Spring resident Benny Moreno.

Burnt crisps and pieces of glass surround Christ in the Country Fellowship Church after Howard County volunteer firefighters says flames erupted inside the building.

“I don’t know why anybody would want to destroy a pretty church like that,” said Moreno.

It’s a little old church out in the country and you could find Benny Moreno there all the time.

“I’d be there every Sunday morning and we love that church and we keep it clean,” said Moreno.

It’s not the first time falling victim to vandalism. Smashed windows and graffiti cover the country church.

“Nobody should do that. Not in a church,” said Moreno.

But this time, damage totaling $10,000 plagues the hallways and nursery. Luckily, flames didn’t spread to the Sanctuary.

“That’s quite a bit of damage for a church,” said Moreno.

Fire investigators told me all signs point to suspicious flames.

“There was evidence left on scene that was collected to show otherwise,” said Sullivan.

Damaging Moreno’s pride and joy.

“I just ask God to forgive them and just not to do anymore like that because it’s terrible, it really is,” said Moreno.
