On The Road: A Look At Slaton ISD’s Colors, Mascot

Slaton Independent School District is known for being the tigers and tigerettes, and for being decked out in black and red. It turns out, the district was not always seen in those colors.

Early on, the district wore purple and white. If you take a trip to the Town Square Antique Mall, you’ll find old uniforms and other Slaton items in purple and white.

“Texas Tech was gracious in donating some band uniforms to our school at that particular time, which were, of course, red and black, so that was kind of our transitional time in regards to changing colors, which was, when that happened, from Tech and then they were donated to our band members, then we kind of transitioned over into the red and black colors,” Chris Kennedy, Slaton High School principal, said.
