The Idalou High School baseball program celebrates 26 years this season. One person who has been with the team since the beginning is Sissie Johnson.
Johnson said she went to the school board years ago, and asked them why there was no baseball team. After a vote, Johnson said the idea was put into motion.
“They [the school leaders] asked me, if they started baseball, would I help, and I said yes,” Johnson said.
“Our first team was in 1990, 26 years ago, and I’m still there, the coaches still put up with me,” johnson said.
Her name can be found on the roster, listed as a stats keeper for the team.
During the games, she can be found either in the dugout or in the stands.
“I’m watching, I write down, I try to keep up with how many pitches the pitcher pitches, the balls, the strikes, the outs, where the ball is hit, all of the details,” she said.
Johnson said that in 26 years, she only missed three games.
“It’s a wonderful thing that we’ve had for 26 years and I love being a part of it,” Johnson said.
