One Dead in Central Lubbock House Fire

On Monday evening the Lubbock Fire Department responded to a house fire at the 1200 block of 49th Street where at least one person was found dead.

Fire officials responded to the scene at around 8:30 p.m.

The Lubbock Fire Marshall’s Office said that neighbors called in saying they saw smoke coming from the home. When fire fighters entered the home, they found a body there. Though the Fire Marshall’s Office could not reveal the identity of the person whose body was inside, but Lubbock Police officers on scene explained that family of the deceased had arrived on the scene.

It is unclear whether the individual lived at the residence, or had died prior to the fire or as a result of it.

Lubbock Fire says because there is fatality involved, the Lubbock Fire Marshal’s office will be taking the case over. The Fire Marshall’s Office said that they were able to put the fire out relatively quickly and that the fire was mostly confined to the living room. An investigation is now in process, no word yet on the cause of the fire.
