One video gaining national attention with nearly sixteen million views, showing a scary moment for one family who got stuck in the Canton storms over the weekend.

A family of four hydroplaned into swift water, causing them to flip and be stranded in their truck. Strapped in the backseat was a baby and a toddler. Korry Prox was one of the good samaritans who stopped to help the family escape.

“I could hear Phillip which is the father screaming help us help us help us so I emptied my pockets and just went in the water,” Prox said. “I ran back into the water and grabbed the second child who was stuck in the car seat, so I got her out of the car seat, ran up and ran up to the street and put her in the back of the pick up truck,

Lubbock Fire Chief, Steve Holland said swift water can happen anywhere and it’s important to be prepared. He said as general safety, a driver should have a knife, a flashlight, road flares, food and water in their car in case of an emergency.

“I know last Spring during several rains we had several swift water rescues, we’ve had some in the downtown area in the over passes, we’ve had some at Mackenzie park,” Holland said.

Holland said the teams are prepared for any severe weather  that could potentially hit Lubbock.

“We have heavy rescue at station one and dive at stationed nineteen so we have a team on each side of town that is trained for swift water rescue,” Holland said. “Most people think, really in Lubbock? But during these heavy thunderstorms we do see some areas with some low line water,”
