The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to two crashes involving three-vehicles Sunday one mile east of McLean on Interstate 40 in Gray County. The crashes resulted in the death of one person.
DPS said at 12:14 a.m., Michael Banks, 64, of Redding, California was driving a Chevrolet Suburban westbound in the eastbound lane. Banks collided head-on into a Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling eastbound.
Then a Peterbilt truck tractor-trailer also collided into Banks’ Chevrolet Suburban.
DPS said Banks was pronounced dead on scene by Gray County Justice of the Peace Joe Martinez.
The drivers of the 18-wheelers were not injured. All three were all wearing seat belts.
DPS said, the road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
