The Metropolitan Planning Organization deciding Monday on a resolution to modernize the I-20 corridor by converting the current two frontage road configurations to one-way roads along a 40 mile stretch.

“There will be the need for additional turn around locations, possibly be the need for widening of some existing lanes, the frontage roads,” says Cameron Walker with MPO.

The MPO basing their decision off of independent studies done by TXDOT and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. The studies state a conversion would reduce fatal and injury crashes by 57%, serious head on and angle crashes by 83-94%, and would have no substantial or negative impacts on businesses three years after frontage road conversions.
