Friends and family celebrating the life of Justice Chavez, 17, and Alicia Ramos,16, with lanterns full of love.
“Without God and our community I would not have made it through this first year,” said January Deleon, Chavez’s mom.
Last April DPS responded to a deadly crash killing both Shallowater High students and athletes. Chavez’s mother planning a lantern release to honor the memory of her son and friend.
“Justice and everything about him was beautiful and happy,” said Deleon. “He loved his friends and group of friends.”
The crash happened along FM 179 and CR 6100, the car with Chavez and Ramos was hit on the passenger side by a pick-up truck driven by Douglas Fairbanks, 45 he and his 10-year-old son were not seriously hurt.
“This many people loved Justice,” said Deleon in reference to a massive crowd. “So many people loved him and not just Justice but also the little girl he was with, Alicia.”
A year later and Deleon continues raising awareness about this dangerous intersection, within the past few years several serious car accidents have occurred along FM 179 and CR 6000.
“It would be a good decision to place some kind blinking stop signs, and some signs to say that the speed limit slows down,” said Deleon.
