A one-year-old is dead after a Friday night accident in Vernon.

Officials with the Vernon Police Department say just before 10 p.m. they responded to an accident involving two vehicles at the corner of Mesquite and Indian street.

They say Alean Addison was driving a Chevy Tahoe in the 2400 block of Mequite with five passengers in the vehicle including an 18-year-old female in the front, and a one-year-old male, seven-year-old female, three-year-old male and nine-year-old male in the back.

Officers say none of the passengers were wearing seatbelts.

They say Carol Gauldin from Vernon was driving a Toyota Avalon east in the 1600 block of Indian.

That’s when Addison failed to yield right of way at the yield sign in the 2400 block of Mesquite.

They say the front end of Gauldin’s vehicle collided with the passenger side of Addison’s vehicle.

That’s when Addison’s vehicle rolled over and came to rest on it’s top.

Officers say the one-year-old back right passenger in Addison’s vehicle was then ejected.

He died as the Vernon Police Department and EMS arrived to the scene.

Officials say they transported five people from the Tahoe and one person from the Toyota to the Willbarger General Hospital.

The accident is still under investigation
