Only two of forty animals survived a fire that destroyed the Kimbrough Animal Hospital late Tuesday evening.
According to the Longview Fire Department, firefighters received a call around 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, reporting the Kimbrough Animal Hospital, located in the 1600 block of Judson Road, had caught fire.
The owner of the clinic, Dr. Kenneth Kimbrough, showed up to the scene and, alongside firefighters, attempted to save the animals. Dr. Kimbrough personally drove the two surviving pets to a 24-hour animal ER on Gilmer Road. Pets who were killed were taken to a building next to the clinic in order for their owners to identify them and take them home.
The roof of the building collapsed during the blaze and Longview Fire Marshal Johnny Zackary tells MyEastTex.com the clinic was destroyed.
According to the Longview News-Journal, all of the records were ruined, as well. The pet clinic asks that owners how had animals being boarded or under the care of the clinic at the time of the fire to call (903) 399-6797 and leave a detailed message. A staff member will return the calls as soon as possible.
Zackary tells MyEastTex.com the fire started as the result of an electrical problem in the office.
A GoFundMe account has been set up by Glaze Veterinary Clinic where citizens can make donations to the Kimbrough clinic.
