Overnight Apartment Fire Displaces 9 Lubbock Residents

Lubbock Fire Rescue said nine people were displaced by a fire overnight at the Hickory Tree Apartments, 1626 16th Street. LFR said firefighters were called to the scene at 1:10 am Saturday for a fire in unit #333 which was vacant.

“Crews had the fire extinguished about 10 minutes later,” LFR said. “The resident of the neighboring apartment was transported for smoke inhalation.”

LFR said fire damage was confined to the one apartment, but the entire third floor suffered smoke damage. The Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate.

LRF also said, “Red Cross responded to assist nine adults.”

It was the second fire at Hickory Tree in less than 12 hours. The first one was a stove fire in unit #7.

Damage in that first fire was confined to the stove, according to LFR, and the residents were not displaced.
