Overnight Shooting, Dad Goes to Hospital, Son Goes to Jail

Lubbock Police said officers arrested Daniel Torrez Jr., 37, for Aggravated Assault and tampering with evidence after a shooting early Friday morning.

Police listed the victim as Daniel Torrez Sr., 54.  Police said he was shot in the abdomen and his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. 


Police said Torrez Jr. and his wife were arguing at home in the 600 block of 31st Street.  Their 17-year-old son left to go get Torrez Sr.  The two returned and the confrontation was still happening, according to police.

Police said, “Torrez Jr. pulled out a shotgun and threatened his wife.”

“Torrez Sr. attempted to get his son to put down the gun,” police said. “At some point during this confrontation, the gun fired, striking Torrez Sr. in the abdomen.”

Torrez Sr. was taken to University Medical Center.  Torrez Jr. was arrested.
