Due to damaging microburst winds on the afternoon of July 14, 2016, the City of Lubbock Cemetery sustained significant wind damage.

Damaged trees are blocking roadways and are posing a safety hazard to visitors. The Cemetery will only open for scheduled funeral services and for visitors to Buddy Holly’s gravesite. Family and friends attending a funeral service and visitors to Buddy’s grave are to not pass any roads blocked by orange cones or street closure barricades. Funeral directors will continue to utilize normal procedures for scheduling services.

The Cemetery will reopen on Tuesday, July 19, 2016. Once opened, visitors are encouraged to use extra caution from downed tree limbs that Cemetery personnel will be picking up throughout the week.
