Parts of North Lubbock will remain under a boil water notice according to information provided by the City of Lubbock on Tuesday.

City of Lubbock Director of Public Works Wood Franklin said two of three recent water samples were clear.  The third water sample was “rejected” according to Franklin.

He said that does mean it’s contaminated but city officials want to be extra cautious.

Another sample was taken and Franklin said Tuesday, “We will hopefully hear back about the results tomorrow.”

On Saturday the City of Lubbock said the areas affected are:
–     Hillcrest Country Club subdivision between Kent and Purdue Streets and University and Boston Avenues
–     The businesses along the North University Avenue corridor north of Loop 289 including X-FAB, AT&T and the State Supported Living Center
–     The area north of Erskine Street and south of Loop 289 between North Avenue X and Cesar Chaves Drive

The city said a contractor accidentally ruptured a water line causing the temporary loss of water service and the need for a boil water notice.

The water is safe for bathing but must be boiled (and then cooled to a safe temperature) before drinking, cooking and hand-washing.
