Plainview Fall Festival Scheduled for Saturday, October 1

The Plainview Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, October 1st from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Courthouse Square (500 Broadway) in Downtown Plainview.

The biggest draw for the festival will be unique vendors featuring clothing, vintage items, rustic items, handmade and one of a kind boutiques.

“We wanted to bring vendors with different and interesting items for Plainview residents and out-of-town guests to enjoy,” said Andrea Glenn, festival organizer. “Our goal is to make this a shopping experience that only happens in downtown Plainview.”

Besides vendors, there will be food served all day, including breakfast burritos from Taco N Todo and items from Kugel’s Kitchen and Bill’s Lemonade from the new Splash Royal Texas Water Park as well as other food vendors.

Live music will include The Lakehouse Project from Amarillo and Oshens from Lubbock and possibly a couple of acoustic solo artists. Other activities include bouncy houses, face painting, balloon animals sponsored by High Plains Concrete, hula hoop contest with the Wayland cheer and dance team, petting zoo, cake walk, football toss and a pumpkin race for the younger children.

“This event is going to be even bigger than last year,” said Melinda Brown, Main Street Manager. “We are not only continuing the collaborative effort with our downtown businesses and restaurants, but we have also added the 5K race, Walk With A Doc, Chili Cook-off and smaller events throughout the day. This event has something for everyone.”

Along with the vendors, Royal Splash Texas Pumpkin Farm will be on hand for those who wish to purchase pumpkins. Lorrie Burnette, fitness instructor, will be coordinating a work-out routine using the pumpkins as weights and obstacles.

“I thought this was a great way to incorporate the things of fall with a workout,” said Burnette, fitness instructor. “It just shows that you can work out anywhere, anytime and we are excited to showcase this workout.”

New to the festivities this year is a Fall Fest 5K Race and Chili Cook-Off. The Fall Fest 5K race will begin at 9:00 a.m. at 7th and Broadway and the route is designed to showcase the city’s parks and Hike and Bike trail to participants. Anyone interested in running can contact Manuel Balderas at 806-729-3971 or Donita Smiley at 806-729-0437. Entry fee is $25 and participants are welcome to sign up the day of the race beginning at 7:30 a.m. Persons interested in registering may also register online at Eventbrite and search for Plainview’s Fall Fest 5K Runwalk Event.

“We have had several people ask about doing a 5K race in Plainview,” said Manual Balderas, Plainview Police Captain. “We have done several in the past and are excited to do one with a fall theme showcasing our parks.”

If you are not a runner, a family walk in conjunction with Walk With A Doc will begin at 9 a.m. Dr. Brad Hough from Regence Health Network will be leading the walk for participants down Broadway. The walk will begin at 6th & Broadway and anyone is encouraged to join us for the walk.

Also, beginning at 9:00 a.m., United Way of Plainview will be hosting a chili cook-off to benefit the agencies of United Way on the east side of the courthouse. The Chili Cook-Off is a CASI-sanctioned event and entry fee for the cook-off is $25.00. To participate, call Leigh Anne Bradley at 806-293-7072 or 806-518-9274.

“United Way has done a chili cook-off in the past and we are excited to have one again,” says Bradley. “Not only will it help raise funds but it will provide a great opportunity for people to cook, eat and enjoy all the other activities at the Festival.”

The streets north and west of the Courthouse will be blocked off and parking will be available along Ash, Broadway and 6th Street.
