Two people died in a small plane crash at Elmdale Airpark near Abilene Tuesday morning, Taylor County Sheriff Ricky Bishop confirms.
Bishop says that the fuel tank on the plane ruptured and the fuel has been absorbed by the ground, but crews will monitor for any fires.
Initial reports indicate the crash happened during takeoff.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is conducting part of the investigation, and the Federal Aviation Administration is on its way to Abilene from Lubbock to assist in the investigation.
Bishop says It is not believed that the victims were from Abilene.
