On Monday, Lubbock players of Pokemon GO shared their stories with KAMC News and EverythingLubbock.com of how the game helped them with mental health issues.
Colin Brown, a Pokemon GO player, said he struggles on a daily basis with anxiety from social interaction and depression.
“That anxiety and social barrier is gone when I play, just because I feel like social barriers exist because we don’t have enough commonality with individuals anymore,” Brown said.
Brown also said this game has bridged the gap for people who have trouble interacting in social settings.
Bryan Moffitt, the Executive Director at Family Counseling Services, said that he is all for it if it is making a positive change.
“I like the fact that people who are struggling in life with a mental illness need a couple things that can really help them. Pokemon GO kind of opens my eyes to that being helpful,” Moffitt said.
He added two keys to helping depression are getting exercise and being out in the sun.
