A man was taken into custody after a reported fight turned into a police chase Tuesday night, the Lubbock Police Department said.

The police response was initialized around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, near the area of 2nd Street and Vernon Avenue, after a “check subject” call. According to scanner traffic which could not be confirmed, officers were looking for an object that resembled a black bag during the chase.

Police said the chase began as an argument and apparent fight between two men, which escalated into a pursuit when the suspect took off on a bicycle as officers arrived.

LPD took one person into custody. His identity was not immediately available.
