Lubbock Police arrested two juveniles near Monterey High School Friday morning.  

Police said, “At approximately 7:42 a.m. we received a call of a stolen vehicle that had been left running in the 3100 block of 47th street.”

Officers found the vehicle and it led to a brief chase.

“It appears two crashes were involved in this case,” police said.  One crash was with another vehicle and the second was a collision with a fence.

The suspects two ran off from the car but police caught them anyway. 

Lubbock ISD said, “The suspects were not associated with Monterey although the chase did include the MHS parking lot.”

No injuries were reported.

Because the suspects are juveniles, the names were not released.

On Friday afternoon, LPD provided the following update:

Summary: At approximately 7:45 a.m. this morning, Lubbock Police received a call of a stolen vehicle at 3103 47th Street. The owner told police she started her vehicle to warm it up. She then left the vehicle running while she went inside. When she returned, the vehicle was gone.

An officer located the stolen vehicle traveling in a Monterey High School parking lot. As the officer followed the vehicle, the suspect began to accelerate through the parking lot. The officer then initiated his lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The suspect sped off, ran over two curbs in the parking lot and a side walk and traveled down Gary Avenue. The suspect hit a parked vehicle in the 4900 block of Gary Avenue and continued to drive down an alley until crashing into fence.

After a brief foot chase, the officer was able to take the suspected driver of the stolen vehicle into custody at 3100 49th Street. The suspected passenger was also taken into custody nearby.
