Emergency crews responded to two separate crashes along Marsha Sharp Freeway near Indiana Avenue Tuesday morning.
At 9:23 am, a driver suffered a medical condition leading to an accident that blocked westbound traffic.
At 9:55 am, a cement truck overturned blocking eastbound traffic. The two crashes were within walking distance of each other. The cement truck driver suffered serious injuries and the cement load was dumped onto the highway.
Police later identified the driver as Ronald Lewis Roland, 59.
The Lubbock Police Department issued the following statement early Tuesday evening:
Today, Tuesday, March 08, 2016 at approximately 9:55 a.m. patrol officers were investigating a minor crash in the main lanes of 3900 Marsha Sharp Freeway. A cement truck traveling westbound swerved to avoid backed up traffic and lost control of the vehicle causing the vehicle to roll. The driver, Ronald Lewis Roland – 59 suffered life threatening injuries and was take to UMC.
The Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene and is investigating the crash.
