The Lubbock Police Department is investigating a traffic collision between a motorcycle and pickup truck that has now turned fatal.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday night, Accident Investigators responded to a crash at the intersection of North University and Clovis Highway.

A GMC pickup truck was traveling northbound in the 400 block of North University. A motorcycle was traveling southbound on North University. As the driver of the pickup truck attempted to turn left onto Clovis Highway, the motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the pickup in the intersection.

The driver and passenger on the motorcycle were both taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver, 52-year-old Michael Vaughn Williams, passed away from his injuries around 11 p.m. Sunday. The passenger, Angela Friar, is still in the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the pickup, 20-year-old Joshua Paterson, was not injured. His passengers, 18-year-old Elias Mendez and 21-year-old George Solis, had minor to moderate injuries.

Through the initial investigation, it appears the driver the pickup truck failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle. It was determined the pickup driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

This is an ongoing investigation, and the findings will be presented to a Grand Jury to decide if charges should be filed.
