At approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night, the Lubbock Police Department received a call to 3rd Street and Uvalde Avenue in reference to a possible disturbance.
A physical altercation occurred between the arrestee, 22-year-old Miguel Mendoza, and another male. Three individuals in a car saw the altercation, recognized the men, and pulled the car over.
Officers were advised that Miguel struck the male in the head with a beer bottle, and then turned his attention to the driver of the car who had exited the vehicle.
The male who was struck ran from the scene, and was not located by officers. Officers were advised Mendoza then displayed a knife and made threats toward the three individuals who had just pulled up. The driver got back into the car and began to drive away when Mendoza threw the knife at the vehicle. He then fled the scene on a bicycle.
The officers located Mendoza riding a bicycle. He refused to comply with officers’ commands to stop. After a brief pursuit, a K9 unit located Mendoza hiding in a back yard in the 2100 block of 3rd Street.
Mendoza was taken into custody, but he continued to resist while being placed in the patrol vehicle. The paddy wagon arrived and transported Mendoza to the Lubbock County Jail. He is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, evading arrest, criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
