Officials say the suspect who was shot Wednesday in an officer-involved shooting has died.
It happened around 2 a.m. when a Roswell police officer was checking on a stolen vehicle at Roswell motel.
Officials say the suspect told the officer that he owned the vehicle but then tried to flee the scene. When the officer tried to pursue him, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at the officer.
Roswell police say the officer returned fire, hitting the suspect in the leg and shoulder. After the suspect was injured, another officer told the suspect to give up his gun, but the suspect turned it on himself.
The suspect was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police have identified the suspect at 30-year-old Shayne Romero.
Police say no officers were injured in the incident. Both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
