If you haven’t made plans yet to spoil mom this weekend, you may want to consider taking her to brunch. Restaurants across town are preparing for the rush of families that will be celebrating Mother’s Day on Sunday. One of those spots is the Overton Hotel.
“It’s a little bit larger of a buffet that we’re going to be putting out. It’s a larger spread for the people to see,” says Douglas Noxon, Certified Executive Chef for the Overton Hotel.
The larger spread will include different seafood options including jumbo shrimp, smoked salmon, smoked trout, pickled mussels, and poached scallops. There will also be a cold food selection including many different types of salads, on top of their signature dishes like the red snapper with pecan crust.
“Some of it is to get people to try some new things and taste some different, new items,” Noxon says.
Right now, Noxon and the rest of his team are in preparation mode for the big day.
“We’re getting ready. Most of what we’re preparing right now is actually the cold food production.”
The Overton isn’t the only place you can go for Mother’s Day Brunch. The Funky Door is also another popular spot.
“It’s going to be delicious,” says Benjamin Parker, Service Director for The Funky Door. “Two of the menu items that are going to be on there are a sea bass with a passion fruit beurre blanc sauce. I’m also going to have two 4-ounce filet mignon medallions.”
Both restaurants will be offering a special menu, full bar, and live music. The Funky Door will even be giving out Mother’s Day gifts.
“They’ll be ranging anywhere from lunch for two, since we are now open for lunch, to maybe a free dinner or select glasses of wine…pretty much anything we can do at The Funky Door to really help everyone that comes in to celebrate mom and tell her thanks for everything she does for us,” he says.
Both restaurants will allow walk-ins on Sunday, but they are filling up quickly, so you’re encouraged to make a reservation ahead of time.
The Overton Hotel brunch buffet will be Sunday 11am – 4pm in the Sunset Ballroom. Call the hotel at (806) 776-7010 to make a reservation. Adults are $32, children under 12 are $13.95, and kids under 4 eat free.
