Tomorrow morning [Wednesday morning] starting at 10 a.m., the northbound lanes of I-27 directly after the Marsha Sharp Freeway will be shut down for two hours.
All northbound traffic will be forced to exit at Marsha Sharp as officers continue their investigation of a traffic crash that caused life threatening injuries to a driver early Sunday morning.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. on March 5th, Accident Investigators were called to the 300 block of I-27 for a serious accident involving two vehicles in the northbound lanes. Through the initial investigation, it appears a Ford Edge, driven by 32-year-old Ritesh Sevanthi-Dilipan, was partially pulled over onto the eastbound shoulder of I-27.
A Nissan Altima driven by 41-year-old Jacob Mojica collided into the back of the stopped Edge. The impact sent both vehicles into the middle lane.
The Edge changed directions and traveled back toward the shoulder where it struck the guardrail. The Edge changed directions again and traveled back across all three northbound lanes of I-27, over the median, and then came to rest on top of the east guardrail of the southbound lanes of I-27.
Sevanthi-Dilipan was taken to UMC where he continues to be in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Mojica was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but his are not believed to be life-threatening.
Speed may have been a factor, and this is an ongoing investigation by LPD’s Accident Investigations Division.
