Abilene Police are investigating the possible homicide of a newborn in South Abilene after the body was recovered from a drainage pipe Monday afternoon.

Officers were alerted to the situation after Hendrick Medical Center called the Abilene Police Department Monday morning. The staff said the woman checked herself into the hospital. They called police after doctors gave her an exam and determined she had just given birth, but no baby was present.

This prompted APD to respond to a home on the 400 block of South 25th Street to search for the newborn.

Police then called plumbers to the scene who snaked the drain from the roof of the house. Then they used a locator to find the drainage pipe outside.

Abilene Police dug around the drain on the west side of the property until they gained access to the pipe. APD has confirmed the body was inside when they cut it open.
