As the Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team sits around the bottom half of the Big 12 Conference standings, many around the state are speculating about head coach Shaka Smart’s job security.
According to ESPN, the Longhorns have a record of 15-13 overall, and 7-8 in the Big 12. They are currently sitting at sixth place in the conference with three games in the regular season remaining.
@TexasTakeover05, a Twitter account that covers Texas athletics, put the country on notice, the Longhorns will take whichever coach they want, including Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard.
If Shaka is fired, the country will get a taste of how TEXAS operates. If we want Texas Tech coach Chris Beard, we will take him. If we want Houston coach Kelvin Sampson, we will take him. It’s really up to Texas. Other schools are stops on the way- Texas is the DESTINATION!— Texas Takeover (@TexasTakeover05) February 28, 2019
While some shared the account’s sentiment, others were not so fast to endorse the account’s viewpoint of Texas’ power.
