Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that on November 1, 2016, a four hour preliminary hearing for Raymond Pacheco, age 53, of Tucumcari, was held before Magistrate Judge Karen Mitchell in Tucumcari.

The charge stems from an incident where a prosecutor from the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Tucumcari was in charge of the prosecution of another matter on Pacheco.  After the hearing on that matter, Pacheco passed across the table to the prosecutor, a facial photograph of the prosecutor, of his home and vehicle stating, “This is a hit.”  The prosecutor from the 10th Judicial District testified he felt this was a threat to his person for the purpose of Pacheco to try and get a better outcome on this case.  The matter was referred to the State Police where an arrest warrant for Extortion was approved.

Curry County District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, was appointed as a Special Prosecutor for the case, due to the conflict with the District Attorney’s Office in Tucumcari. Pacheco remains in custody on a $25,000.00 cash only bond and an arraignment in District Court will be scheduled within the next few weeks.
