The 1st annual Paw-A-Thon of 2016 will be held on the campus of Texas Tech University at 9 a.m. on April 30. The event will feature a 5k route that will run through the campus of Texas Tech. The official distance of the race is 3.1 miles. The event is open to anyone who would like to participate. Benefits of the race will go to the Haven Animal Shelter of Lubbock as well as Texas Tech University’s Kinesiology and Sport Management Department.
To register for the event, visit www.pawathon2016.com. The price of admission is $30 per participant. The 1st 300 runners to sign up will receive a Paw-A-Thon t-shirt. If the participant wishes to bring their dog, there will be an added cost of $5. There is a limit of two dogs per participant. For participants who decide to register with their dogs, a record of the k-9’s shots must be provided upon arrival.
The Haven Animal Shelter is a non-profit foundation that was established in 1977. The The Haven is a seven acre, no-kill animal sanctuary operated in Lubbock, Tx that is generally home to over 100 animals, primarily dogs and cats. The goals of the shelter include saving the lives of helpless animals, one life at a time and educating people to be responsible pet owners, one person at a time.
