With the heavy rain this past spring and summer, came more rodents.
Bruce Burney with Bugs Burney Pest Control says those rodents have led to an increase in rattlesnakes.
Burney says they have had several calls recently to remove snakes from homes, especially in Carson County.
“We’ve been doing a couple of snake jobs over there. I did one where I caught seven snakes on one trap. We did another job where we seen ten rattlesnakes up underneath the house, we actually trapped eight of them,” said Burney.
Amy Williamson, a resident of Panhandle says they have seen snakes around her property recently.
“I have seen a couple of rattlesnakes in the past month, month and a half out on my property. I am not OK with that, not in January and February,” said Williamson.
Snakes are usually seen in the warmer months, but Burney says since they have had water in the area, they are starting to come out sooner.
He says there are ways to help the problem, first, get rid of rodents near your home.
“Once you start reducing their food, you are going to start reducing them. Then you can seal the structure, trap them, put out traps for them,” added Burney.
The Carson County Sheriff’s Office posted a warning on their Facebook to let residents know more snakes were out.
They are recommending you stay away from areas with tall grass.
