The old Hemphill-Wells building was always known as a magical and special place to shop. People would come from all across West Texas just to see their elaborate window decorations for Christmas. When Hemphill-Wells closed in 1986, part of the magic left with it, until now.

The Reagor-Dykes Auto Group is bringing that magic back. They have redecorated the windows in the old Hemphill-Wells building to bring back the memories of its former glory. This was a labor of love that took around three days to complete. Bart Reagor, recalls seeing the window decorations when he played football for Texas Tech University and wanted to bring this tradition back.

“We just hoped that it would make everybody happy,” Reagor said. “I hope that people will just use the windows to drive by and look at and bring some good Christmas feelings.”

The decorations have only been up for a short amount of time, but they have already received positive feed back from the community about how the windows look. Re-doing these windows serves as just one more way the Reagor-Dykes Auto Group is helping to restore downtown Lubbock.
